The club has engaged the services of highly experienced Clerk of the Course, Mike Bell. Bell has been running high profile events on the east coast of Australia for the past 22 years and has been the driving force behind the International Rally of Canberra, which is a round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship and the NEC Australian Rally Championship.
Bell was also the founder of the legendary Dunlop 2GO Rally of the early eighties.
The Southern Cross Classic Rally has now gone from concept to being a reality, with an enthusiastic executive committee formed, and planning for the event already well underway.
The idea is to bring back the ‘good old days of serious fun’ in Australian motorsport, when rallying was an adventure, with the emphasis on endurance and reliability, but with a fun social side too.
The course survey is already underway to seek out the best roads available.
The rally will have a two-day format with a promotional start and function on the Friday night. The stages will predominantly be on gravel and will be centred in the Taree - Bulahdelah - Forster area on the north coast of NSW.
Eligibility will be restricted to cars from the classic era, pre-1986 2WD.
