Forty-seven entries have been received for the opening round of the Victorian Rally Championship, which gets under way tomorrow.

A host of Mitsubishi Lancers and Subaru Imprezas will lead the field away in the Cerberus Stages, which will be based in Neerim, east of Melbourne.

The battle for the lead looks like being a hard-fought affair between the Subarus of Mark Fawcett, Jesse Robison and Ian Martin, and the Mitsubishis of Justin Dowel and Craig Morris.

But there are plenty of others capable of upsetting the favourites, including Derek Reynolds, Nathan Reeves and Brenton Kaitler.

Another Reeves, Brendan, will hone his skills prior to the following weekend’s Rally Queensland, but in the Victorian opener will drive a non-turbo Impreza RS, rather than the Les Walkden-prepared WRX he will run in the ARC.

High winds and rain with a top temperature of just 17 degrees is forecast for the event tomorrow. Last year’s Cerberus Stages was also affected by the weather, with some stages having to be shortened.

The event includes three lady drivers – Kylie Evans (Subaru), Emma Cugley (Hyundai) and Penny Swan (Volvo).
