As the excitement around the SIDCROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship grows, so does the size of the series. The latest addition to the seven round championship is a category that should bring a smile to the faces of rally fans everywhere this season with the inclusion of a class for PRC Rally cars.
Known as 4WD Turbo, this category will see 15 competitors battle it out in cars more commonly seen on the special stages of the Australian Rally Championship, with a few minor differences.
Director of Operations for the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship, Mark Stacey explains:
“The 4WD Turbo cars will be PRC rally cars but with greater freedom in relation to weight and performance. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel, our goal is to actively incorporate as many existing Australian cars as we possibly can into the Championship.
“Traditional rallycross modifications such as rear mounted radiators and the like will be allowed, but are not mandatory to run,” Stacey said.
The field is expected to be the most quickly subscribed, with season entries already being snapped up.
“For the guys who can't quite stretch to a Supercar Lites program it is going to be an excellent and cost effective stepping stone into the premier category,” added Stacey.
“It’s a great way for drivers to learn the courses, and there’s no doubt the racing will be fast and furious.”
The 4WD Turbo class will also run on a control tyre, with strict controls on the numbers of tyres that can be used during heats and finals. This will help to ensure parity, as well assist in containing costs.
Entry fees for all 7 rounds of the Championship is only $5000 + G.S.T.
