A trio of Bates' will lead a full field of competitors in the Blue Range Rallysprint near Canberra on September 5.
In the lead-up to the return of the Australian Rally Championship in October, Lewis and Harry Bates will pilot a Toyota Yaris AP4, while their father, Neal, will drive his classic Toyota Celica RA40.
The Blue Range Rallysprint, run by the Light Car Club of Canberra, was moved from earlier in the year due to the bushfire crisis.
“I think it’s a real testament to the status and quality of our events, and some of the fantastic roads we have in Canberra, that we have entries from such high profile Australian Rally Championship regulars,” said Clerk of Course Pete Stringfellow.
“At a challenging time for rallying across the whole of Australia, our rallysprint events are an important fixture for the Light Car Club of Canberra, and importantly, the sport in the Canberra region. They support the growth of club level rallying, which is a key focus for the LCCC.
“It is also very exciting to see competitors such as Evan Pyne and Erin Barker stepping up into special stage rallying for the first time. We are excited to see members come through the club from a grass roots level, and watch them taking the step from khanacross events into proper rally events.”
While necessary COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place during the event, Pete says organisers are confident the event will allow competitors and officials to get back to enjoying their sport.
“After months of staying at home, I think are all chomping at the bit to get back out into the forest and do what we love.”
The LCCC is also on the look out for volunteers, not only for the Blue Range event but also the award winning Kosciusko Automotive Monaro Stages Rally, scheduled to run on October 31 in the forests around Cooma.
