After not running last year, the Bega Valley Rally is all set to go ahead this year on Sunday, June 7, its usual June Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend date.

Crews can look forward to some of the smoothest roads in Australia, with the traditional shire road stages near Bega - 'Upper Cobargo', `Coopers Creek' and `Buckajo' – being run at one minute intervals. A further five stages in the forests around Eden (including the famous Snake Track) will run at two minute intervals to round out the event for a total distance of 145km competitive and 410km overall.

The event is round of both the New South Wales and Victorian State Rally Championships (including Two Wheel Drive Championships); a round of the Hyundai Excel Series of both states, as well as the Hyundai Excel National Trophy, and a round of the ACT Regional Series. As a result, the usual full field of entries are expected and these are now rolling in. Entries close on May 29.

The event website has been building up over recent weeks and includes parts 1 and 2 of the History of the ARC and Bega event, covering the period 1968-1980. This has been compiled by new Clerk-of-Course Tom Snooks, including some great photos of the cars and characters of the era. Snooks has a long history of involvement in organising major rallies including his time as General Manager of the Bega Valley Rally in the mid-seventies (1972 to 1978) when he was secretary of the organising club, The Australian Sporting Car Club.

Snooks and his team look forward to expanding this iconic event in future years. Fuller details are available at www.begavalleyrally.com.au
