This year’s Bega Valley Rally will feature a special night to celebrate the 40th Jubilee of the event.

Prominent past competitors Ross Dunkerton, Ed Mulligan, Wayne Bell, Dinta Officer, Mal Sinfield and Neal Bates have all confirmed their attendance and many other past competitors and officials are being invited to join the festivities.

No formal dinner has been organised – we’ll leave you to make your own arrangements and then join us in the Captain’s Table Room (upstairs at the Eden Fisherman’s Club) at around 8pm, where Max Roberts will act as MC for the evening. Max competed in the first Bega Valley Rally in 1973 and will be competing again this year, 40 years later!

We’ll start with some video footage of past events to view while everyone arrives and gets settled and then at 8:30 Max will welcome everyone and introduce Bob Moore, Director of the first Bega Valley Rally in 1973. Bob will briefly outline how the event came to be based at Bega and what sort of event it was back in those ‘good old days’.

We’ll then have presentations to recognise some key characters who were involved with the event back in 1973. There’ll also have a draw for a special door prize for some lucky person (collect your ticket as you enter) to win a real collector’s item - a large canvas of half a dozen photos from past Bega years, kindly donated by Dallas Dogger.

As we relax, some of the event’s more prominent characters will be asked to share their favourite Bega memories and stories (which will no doubt be highly embellished with the passing of time). We aim to keep these short and entertaining and just to make sure they don’t get ‘out of hand’ MC Max will not be relinquishing the microphone!

These reminisces will conclude the formal, structured part of the evening (around 9:30pm), recognising that some have to get away to bed as they'll be competing (or officiating) in the morning. For the rest of us, we encourage you to mix together and swap yarns at your leisure into the night  (or for as long as your memoires last)!

We hope you will join us for this celebratory evening and then enjoy all the action on the following day when a strong field ‘classic-style’ 2WDs will bring the forests to life as a prelude to the main State Championship fields from NSW and Victoria. See you in Eden.
