The 2012 EXEDY Victorian Rally Championship kicks off at the Begonia Rally at the forests surrounding Ballarat this Saturday.

The Championship welcomes back EXEDY Australia, No 1 for Clutch as naming rights sponsor is 2012.  VRC Management Group chairman Scott Spedding was delighted to have EXEDY on board again this year.

“The VRC has worked hard to ensure EXEDY and their products are showcased in the championship.  The majority of competitors use EXEDY products which is testimate to the strength and reliability of their brand.  We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with EXEDY during 2012,” Spedding said.

The EXEDY VRC welcomes back the Begonia Rally to its calendar after a three year hiatus with a bumper entry list of 78 cars.

Reigning 2011 EXEDY VRC Champions Warren Lee and David Lethlean will be back to defend their title in 2012, but they will have to be on their best game with many challenges lining up to take maximum points in each heat.

2011 Australian Rally Championship winner, Justin Dowel (pictured) will pair up with 2010 winning VRC co-driver Scott Spedding for a full assault on the championship.  Dowell intended to run his aging Celica GT4 at the Begonia, but a hold up on parts will see him use his 2011 ARC winning car, a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9.  It is hoped he will be back in the Celica for round 2.

The brother pairing of Stephen and Glen Raymond will be campaign their Group N(p) Toyota Corolla in’12, while the  father daughter duo of Craig and Carrie Morris return in their RDA /EBC Brakes EVO 8.

Tristan Penhall and Jolie Middleton is expected to keep applying pressure as they increased their speed last year in their Subaru WRX STi.  Wayne Stewart and Lucas Zinstagg will be looking to take outright points as they now come to terms with their new WRx STi, while David Nutter and Jenna Kelley will fly the flag for the gonutsforcars rally team.

Strong entries have also been received in the EXEDY Two Wheel Drive Championship with many new pairings looking to challenge the category.  Brian Semmens and Dan Parry are back in their Nissan 200SX with any number of challenges lining up, including last years Hyundai Excel Rally Series winners, brothers Steven and Brent Mackenzie in a Ford Fiesta ST.  2010 2WD Champions Alan Friend is back in his Nissan Sylvia RS with co-driver Michelle Canning and will be looking to keep the rest of the challengers honest.

The Hyundai Excel Rally Series continues its strength in 2012 with 2011 EXEDY VRC Novice winners Scott and Tom Wright joining the series along with seven other contenders in the class.

The Begonia Rally will start from Kings Cars Carpark, Learmonth Road on Saturday morning, and then head to the Ballarat Autocross track for stage one, before heading out to the Wombat Forest with a central service at the Ballan Racecourse.  Spectating is free.  Visit www.vicrally.com.au/vrc,php  for more information.
