Held in the sensational North West Coast of Tasmania, the 2012 Cradle Coast saw the Britz Australia Rally Team compete in their first tarmac rally, very proudly coming home with a trophy for their Class win.

Modified for the event, the car was lowered and sported Kumho racing tyres. The team took the opportunity to test the car before the first round of the Australian Rally Championship next weekend. “As a Tasmanian team, we also wanted to let our local fans see us in action to thank them for their continued support”, said driver and team owner Mark Butcher.

The teams mascot ”Spike” was eager and raring to go, sprawled across the car, helping Mark and co-driver Nicole Bryan to grab some attention. “The spectators and supporters are who we love to entertain, as they are out their cheering us on” said Mark. “So of course we put on a bit of a show with a big hand brake turn on the first corner and a slightly misjudged turn on the second corner leading to a full 360’ spin.”

With the start of day 2, the team got down to business, leaping from 24th to 13th place after just one stage.
They finished the rally as class winners in the club car category and placed inside the top 10 in front of a range of high performance cars.

It was a quick dash back to the garage for some minor tweaks, improvements and repairs in preparation for this weekend for the first round of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship at Calder Park in Melbourne.
The mad rush to ensure the car and the team are on the boat tonight to head across the Bass Strait to the mainland.

“It’s been a pretty hectic time with two events in two weeks – but we have spent a lot of time developing this car and we knew it would be capable of finishing the Tarmac rally and being ready for Calder. The car is now back in gravel rally spec and we are keen to drive it as hard as we can to impress the fans and our sponsors at this high profile event” said Mark.

The ECB Rally Calder will be held from March 1-4 at Calder Park – only 20 minutes from the heart of Melbourne.  With the event being held so close to the city, big crowds are expected and the team are eager to please the locals!
