The extension of government-imposed restrictions in Auckland has forced the postponement of the Maramarua Clubmans Rally. The 72km-long rally was to be co-hosted by the South Auckland Car Club and Pukekohe Car Club, who announced the postponement on Monday. “While the event is technically in the Waikato the majority of helpers and a large amount of competitors will be from the Auckland region,” they said. “With the maximum group number of 10 under level 2 for Auckland running until at least September 6th it makes it extremely difficult for us to ensure we can pull together a safe event for everyone. The last thing we want to do is become a super spreader event!! “We will be endeavouring to secure another date in the future so watch this space." New Zealand Rally Championship regulars were set to contest the rally, including defending national champion Ben Hunt (Subaru), Dylan Turner (Audi), and Jack Hawkeswood (Mazda). The event was a key piece of build-up to the City of Auckland Rally and Battle of Jacks Ridge, that are set to be staged in November.
