The Raymond Partners Accountants Rally Team have had a dismal Coffs Coast Rally, round three of the Australian Rally Championship. The crew of Glen and Matt Raymond, driving their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, made it to only stage 9 before a small off road excursion and a lack of spares put paid to their event.

Battling an oversteering car that resulted in two spins, the crew made some positive supsension changes and began to be back on the front pace. However, a long left hander would finish their event early.

“We finally got the feeling with the car that we were looking for after some changes on the go. However, on a fast left hand corner I overcorrected a slide which straightened up the car,” said driver Glen Raymond. “We ran wide over some grass, and I didn’t think much of it and kept driving. Unfortunately the front right ball joint that holds the bottom of the suspension broke. This caused the top suspension mount to stress and break off, resulting in only three wheels left on the car!”

With a broken front strut and no spares, the crew was forced to sit out and spectate for the rest of the weekend.

“It’s obviously frustrating, as we put a standard strut on the car and drove it onto the trailer,” stated navigator Matt Raymond. “However, we are focussed on the chance to win a World Rally Championship drive through the Pirelli Star Driver and we have made some positive steps to achieve the goal.”

The team would like to thank its supporters who make it possible to compete at national level: Raymond Partners Accountants, Warragul Mitsubishi, JNJ Electrical Contractors, Bendigo Bank, Blackwell Bodyworks, Pfitzner Performance Gearboxes, Quality Site Welding, Grunt Automotive, Westcourt General Insurance, ERG Race wear, Legible Signs, VicParts,99R Brake pads and Moe Engines.
