The 2011 Australian Rally Champion, Justin Dowel, is offering an incredible $2000 in prize money to help boost entries in this month’s Scouts Rally SA.
The Activ RallySport driver has put up $2000 to any driver in the 4WD section of the rally who can beat him, as well as winning the 4WD component outright.
Dowel will drive his 2011 championship-winning Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX in the rally, which will be held in the Adelaide Hills from May 24 to 26.
“This is definitely not about me, it’s about helping to boost entries in the 4WD Challenge section of Scouts Rally SA,” Dowel said.
“Being able to put something back into the sport means a lot to me, and this is a great way of doing it.”
Dowel won Scouts Rally SA outright in 2011, on his way to winning the championship, and is confident of success this year.
“I’ve done well in South Australia in the past and I really enjoy the fast roads there, so whoever wants the $2000 is going to have to be ‘on it’ right from the start,” he added.
“I guess you can say it’s putting my money where my mouth is, but it’s also about encouraging people to compete at the highest level, with the chance of very good prize money.”
This will be Dowel’s first event in the Lancer for some time. Having missed the majority of the 2012 season, he drove a Can-Am Side By Side in last month’s Forest Rally.
