The drought conditions in Victoria look set to hamper the Pirtek Ford Rally Team’s plans to test their new Super 2000 Fiestas before the team leaves for Rally Queensland in just over two weeks time.

Britek’s Ben Beazley told RallySport Magazine today that the building of both team cars are progressing well, but the weather was set to play its hand.

“We are wanting to test ahead of leaving for Queensland, but due to fire risk none of the regular testing areas are available in Victoria,” Beazley said.

“We will therefore aim to shake both cars down locally, before having a major test in Queensland before the rally.”

Excitement in the Super 2000 category has built over the past week with Toyota releasing testing footage of their new stead in action in the Canberra forests. Beazley says that the new Ford Fiestas will look the part as well.

“The cars look fantastic and we are having the livery put on at the moment, so they’ll look even better when we head north in a few weeks,” he said.

Team drivers Michael Guest and Darren Windus now face an anxious wait until the cars are ready for them to drive for the first time, in the week leading up to Rally Queensland.
