The event is the fourth round of the “MEX” Queensland State Championship and also boasts a top class field in the “Central Qld Petroleum” sponsored Classics division and is run by the Gold Coast
Tweed Motorsporting Car Club (GCTMC). The event sees drivers tackle nearly 120km of the best shire roads in the region, with eight daylight and two night stages.
Five-times Australian Champion, Ross “Dunko” Dunkerton, will head a strong list of contenders, including Lismore local Ed “Hooligan” Mulligan and Brisbane driver Stewie Reid, all in similar BDA Escorts.
The Queensland State Championship will be fought out between the state’s best with 2010 champion Rob Bishop driving last year’s event winning car (Mitsubishi EVO 6). He will be challenged by former South African rally driver Marius Swart (VW Polo S2000 ), Ian Menzies (EVO 6) and former Australian Rally Championship contender and Gold Coast resident, Marty Beckton, driving a Subaru WRX. A total field of 60 cars will start the rally, but not all will finish due to natural attrition.
The event supports local community groups through donations and uses local volunteers to help run the event. Catering of food and drinks at the Woodenbong Showgrounds will be provided throughout the day and night.
The event starts from Woodenbong Showgrounds at midday, with cars on display from 9am. Spectator points are available and information guide can be collected at Rally HQ from 8am Saturday morning. Further details are available on www.gctmc.org.au
The organisers would also like to thank local police and Tenterfield Shire Council for their ongoing support of this great event.
