Team drivers Will Orders and Ross Allan will drive rear-wheel drive Nissan Silvias in three Rally America events, while Orders will also tackle the iconic Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado.
Before they left, five-times Australian Rally Champion, Ross Dunkerton, sent the team this message of encouragement.
In rallying, cream will always rise to the top, but in Australia, once floating aloft, there isn’t a lot of scope to make rallying a full time profession. Whilst Europe seems an obvious destination, there is a lot of competition to get noticed by factory teams.
One destination that has been a bit overlooked is the USA, where although
rallying is not that prominent with the general population, it is very popular with manufacturers. A number of young British drivers have benefited enormously from
competing in the USA, with paid factory drives within a relatively short space of time.
I was very pleased to see that Summit Innovations has financed Will and Ross and
their respective co-drivers to try their hand in a couple of American events, including Pikes Peak.
Not only will the talents of these youngsters become quickly obvious to the American fans, the overseas experience will be priceless for them.
It’s fitting that the name Summit, which means the top, is now associated with backing these two competitors. I’m sure a lot of Australians will be wishing them well and supporting their rise to the “summit”.
I wish them well in their endeavours and know they will represent Australian rallying with pride and dogged determination.
