Regulations have been published and entries are now open for the fourth running of the Possum Bourne Memorial rally.  The rally is to run this year on Saturday,  August 22 as a one day clubman’s event. The Pukekohe Car Club is running the event in partnership with Rally New Zealand, continuing their successful partnership of the past two years.

A new sponsor is also on board, Clark Proctor of “Metalman Nationwide” is the main sponsor of the 2009 event, and the rally will be known as the “Metalman Possum Bourne Memorial Rally”. Frank Allen Tyres Waiuku, VTNZ, Guada Fiesta Bar and Smartwood by Alpwood have joined the event as individual stage sponsors.

The rally will also have a new start venue, the Hamilton Workingmen’s Club in Frankton, which is also the finish and prize giving venue.

Documentation and scrutineering will be at the VTNZ premises in Frankton on the Friday evening before the event.  There will also be documentation and scrutineering in Auckland on Tuesday night to assist competitors.  As the event will be offering a single pass reconnaissance to assist competitors recce sign on will be available at the start of the first stage.

The reason for the move to Hamilton is simply to make the event more compact, and therefore a little more affordable event for the clubman competitor. Four fantastic stages, all repeated are to be used, including the world famous Whaanga Coast. Total mileage will be just over 500kilometres with 201km of competitive gravel stage mileage.

Servicing for the event will be at Raglan Airfield and the Oparau roadhouse meaning competitors have plenty of chances to service and rejoin if they drop out.  The event is Round 4 of the “Te Rapa Autos Top Half Rally Series“, and is also a round of the “Rally New Zealand Rising Stars Development and International awards”.

The Pukekohe Car Club is hoping for a healthy entry due to the above competitions, added to this the local clubman competitors, and it should make for a exciting day of motorsport on the challenging Waikato roads. Hopefully just reward for the organisers, helpers and sponsors.
