The Evans' took won Heat One yesterday but had a struggle on their hands in today's Heat Two, with Scott Pedder and Jon Mortimer leading the charge today. With the overall rally victory decided by the number of stage wins, the Evans' needed to win the final stage of the rally to clinch an overall victory.
With Pedder 27.8 seconds ahead with just one stage to go, this seemed an unlikely result until Pedder rolled his Mitsubishi on the very last stage of the event. The roll meant Pedder was unable to get his car out of the stage, resulting in a DNF for Heat Two, and handed not only the rally win to Evans, but also the Championship lead.
Brother and sister duo, Ryan and Rebecca Smart (Toyota Corolla), had their best ARC result to date, finishing a fine second outright overall after third places in both Heats. With gearbox problems for much of today, the pair were relieved to finish the rally and their result was just reward for a consistent drive for the weekend.
Keeping the family theme, another brother and sister combination, Michael Boaden and Helen Cheers, finished the rally in third place overall after consistently scoring top ten stage times over the weekend.
Eli Evans and Glen Weston set some super quick times in their front wheel drive Honda Civic in Heat Two, until they too rolled on the final stage of the day.
