Two-time Australian Rally Champion, Simon Evans, will drive a Subaru Impreza WRX in five rounds of this year’s ARC, commencing with round two in Canberra on March 7 and 8.

Evans’s five-year stint with the factory Toyota team comes to an end after this weekend’s Rally Tasmania, with the 36-year old Victorian set to drive a second Subaru alongside his brother, Eli.

A noticeably relaxed Evans was upbeat about the 2009 ARC, and is not only eager to drive a Group N Subaru, but also to partner his brother in the family team.

“We’ll run both Eli and Simon for the rest of the year,” Evans’s father, Peter, said at today’s pre-event shakedown.

“We have the ex-Michael Thompson, ex-Darren Windus Impreza sitting in the shed, which Simon will drive.”

Eli’s car will continue to appear under the Tankformers banner, while Simon’s car will run in the livery of the family’s other business, Simons Builders.

“I’ll I have to build a heap more houses to pay to run both of them this year,” Peter Evans joked.

After initially struggling with the tarmac roads of Tasmania last October, Simon Evans is confident of a good result this weekend, but knows that the name of the game is scoring points that will give him a good start in the championship.

“We had a good test on Wednesday and the car set-up is identical to how we finished the event last year, so I’m comfortable with it,” Simon said. “I can’t wait to get out there to see how we go.”
