Changes to the route for this week's Kennards Hire Rally Australia look highly likely due to the extreme bushfire disaster in New South Wales that continues to unfold.
The rally issued a bulletin on Friday evening stating:
"BUSHFIRES IN NEW SOUTH WALES (NSW)Currently there are many significant bushfires in various parts of NSW. At present there has been no significant impact on the roads to be used in Rally Australia.The organisers are in close and regular contact with the authorities who are very aware of the upcoming event and assisting in every way possible.All forest areas to be used for the rally are currently closed to all traffic as a precautionary measure – this includes no access for any rally related activity.The organisers will issue another communication before commencement of reconnaissance with further updates."
Most at risk, it is believed, are the event's southern stages around Taylor's Arm and Macksville.
Milder temperatures are forecast this week, but no rain appears likely, making changes to the rally route almost inevitable.
Rally Australia officials could not be reached for comment when contacted by RallySport Magazine on Saturday night, with the rally office buzzing with activity amidst the bushfire threat.
