Five people were injured when a car went off the road during the shakedown for the Rally of Porugal last night.

Armindo Araujo lost control of his Lancer and hit onlookers, three of them professional photographers,.

A statement from the event's organisers said that "Araujo left the road and made contact with five people who were standind in designated 'no-go' area.

"A Portuguese photographer suffered a broken leg and was attended to be the organiser's medical staff before being taken to Faro hospital for further treatment.

"One [spectator] suffered a broken arm and was also attended to at the scene before being transferred to Faro hospital.

"The others suffered slight injuries and were taken to hospital for precautionary checks."

This is Portugal's first time back in the World Rally Championship since 2001.
