The announcement builds on Ford’s recent support for the introduction of the Ford Fiesta R2 to the Australian Rally Championship. A second nomination will be made on a round by round basis until the field of Fiesta R2s increases.
David Francis, Group Manager, Motorsport, Sponsorships and Events at Ford Australia said the Ford Fiesta R2 was going to be a serious contender for a place in the manufacturer’s title in 2013.
“We’re pleased to announce our nomination for Adrian to score points in the manufacturer’s title in 2013. Based on Adrian’s results this year, I am sure that with the new Fiesta R2 at his disposal he’ll do a great job for Ford and we look forward to seeing the Fiesta on the podium as the year progresses,” Francis said.
The nomination will see Coppin’s team, Innate Motorsport field their new R2 at every round of the ARC next year.
“Having a manufacturer’s nomination is a huge reward for my efforts in this years ARC and I am pleased it is Ford, as I am committed to their product, both in my rallying and with my business vehicles. I will be fighting my hardest to give Ford a good shot for a podium in the manufacturer’s title and in the driver’s championship,” Coppin said.
“The significance of the nomination by Ford isn’t lost on Adrian and while he is disappointed he won’t be able to contest the event in England as planned, the team is looking forward to the challenge of taking the fight up to the other manufacturers on Ford’s behalf,” Team Manager Rob Herridge added.
The team will debut the new Fiesta R2 at their home event, the National Capital Rally in March.
