Newly-crowned Australian Rally Champion, Eli Evans, has told RallySport Magazine that he is unlikely to defend his 2018 crown. In an exclusive interview with RSM, Evans said that the defence of his title would simply come down to money.
"Look, at this stage, unless we can get some help, we probably won’t run the ARC next year as a full program," Evans said.
"It’s really based on funding. "There’s also a lot of pressure associated in running the whole series, especially because I’ll have number one on the car next year. "I know how fast Harry and Neal are developing the Toyota, and Steve was in his first year back in the ARC. If he returns again, he’s only going to be faster again." In a lengthy chat with Peter Whitten, Evans told of his trials and tribulations during the 2018 season, and how run ins with the rule book almost saw him abandon his ARC hopes leading into Rally Australia. He speaks candidly about his plans for the Mini Cooper AP4 car in the future, whether he felt that the sport's law makers were out to get him in 2018, how much his father, Peter, has done for his career, and who now has bragging rights at Christmas dinner - he or brother Simon.
