The Pirtek Rally Team has forged an alliance with Galfer Racing Performance Brakes for the 2007 NEC Australian Rally Championship.

Through Australian distributor Mat Mladin Imports Motorsport, the Pirtek Rally Team first used the Spanish owned and manufactured brake pads at the recent Quit Forest Rally in Western Australia.

Drivers Michael Guest and Darren Windus carried out a full evaluation of the brake pads during a pre-event test before using them in the event proper.

"I was very impressed with the performance of the Galfer pads," Guest said.

"As a driver you are always looking for a very strong feel back through the pedal, and this is certainly what the Galfer brake pads provided.

"The test and the rally itself were run in contrasting conditions and through the dry and wet running the performance of the Galfer brake pads were not compromised."

Windus also had plenty of praise for the Galfer brake pads.

"I have used a range of different brake pads and I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised just how good the Galfer brake pads were," Windus said.

"The technical group from the team also gave its full evaluation and they were very impressed with the performance, and also the wear rate.

"In rallying you need to have full confidence in many aspects of the car, but brakes are clearly a critical element to improve times and maintain the highest levels of safety."

Galfer Performance Brakes has a long history dating back to its inception in 1949 to today suppling many of the top European race and rally teams.

Now the Pirtek Rally Team can take full advantage of a highly experienced technical partner in Mat Mladin Motorsport and Galfer Performance Brakes.

Galfer Racing Brake representative, Greg Moon, believes the confidence from the team underlines the performance of the brake pads.

"We did test the Galfer product back-to-back with some very well know racing brake pads," Greg Moon said.

"I know it was pleasing for the Pirtek Rally Team to find out just how good the Galfer brake pads were. However, with experience in rallying throughout Europe and even in rally-raid events like the Dakar Rally, we were confident in the product living up to expectations.

"There are a number of options on the pads and we plan to make good use of these with the Pirtek Rally Team throughout 2007. We will continue to provide full technical assistance at each event to ensure that the information gained from the team can be passed back to the factory in Spain to further improve the product.

"With the Pirtek Rally Team being the first operation in the world to campaign a Super 2000 Ford Fiesta, it's important for all parties that the car's overall performance continues to improve. Galfer is fully committed to ensuring that happens."

The Pirtek Rally Team next competes at the Rally of Canberra on June 1-3.
