CCRMIT are very returning to the Pyrenees Shire for the 2015 Maryborough Toyota George Derrick Pyrenees Rush. This will be round 4 of the Focus on Furniture and Bedding Victorian Rally Championship, OurAuto Rally Series, and round 1 of the Bendigo Tyre Centre Victorian Note Rally Series.
With the championship well underway, those competeing will be trying to position themselves for a far and square crack at the title. This round will see crews pulling out all stops for podium wars, as crews will be able to produce their own safety notes to negotiate the selected roads with precise calls and instruction between Driver and Co-Driver whilst competeing.
Event director James Elliott – Clerk of Course, and Road Director Richard Gill have put a large amount of work with stake holders to utilise some of the very best roads in the Avoca area for this years event, including use of some of the magestic roads in the local Hancock Victorian Plantations, the first time of use in over 13 years - an absolute coup for rallying in Victoria.
This year’s event sees an increase in activity than in the past, as on Saturday 22nd August, competitiors will be out writing and perfecting their safety notes - during this time they must adhere to all the Victorian Road and must comply with on this day without exception. Sunday 23rd August though will see the actual sections of road and forest completely closed to access for public and non-competition vehicles.
Competitors and their vehicles will be present at the Avoca Riverside Markets from 8am, with the first competitor leaving at 9.15. Also along side at the markets will be the Pyrenees Historic Car Club, with a wide range of historic vehicles. Already a wide range of entries have been received, including VRC regulars Viv Dilkes-Franye and Tracey Dewhurst in the Subaru WRX, John Carney and Dale Allens in a newly aquired Ford Escort RS2000, and first time Focus on Furniture and Bedding VRC competitor James Rooke in his reliable Toyota Corolla.
The event has worked very closely with Hancock Victorian Plantations, and we are very excited to be utilising the plantation roads for the first time in 13 years. Any future chances to have continued access to plantation roads for competitive use will be displayed at this event. The event does have a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to showcase the progression of our sport and its risk and road management protocols, setting the example for any potential future use.
The Maryborough Toyota George Derrick Pyrenees Rush could not be possible without the great support from our naming rights partner Maryborough Toyota. In addition great assistance has been recevied from the Pyrenees Shire Council, Avoca Police, Avoca Tourism, the Amphitheatre Recreation Reserve, and the many volunteers from both inside and outside the Car Club RMIT Inc who are giving up their time to help us run the event.
