This week will see former Adelaide Hills resident Steve Glenney return to his local roads to challenge for outright honours in Supaloc Targa Adelaide.
The former Targa Tasmanian winner has previously featured in Adelaide in a classic car and is revelling in the opportunity to compete in the new modern category in a Subaru Impreza WRX STI - Cody Crocker's 2006 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship-winning car.
“I’m really looking forward to this year’s event,” says Glenney. “It’s great to see so many local businesses getting behind us and the iconic event; it’s creating a real buzz around town.
“The involvement of the Adelaide-based company Supaloc as the naming rights sponsor and the introduction of modern vehicles will let spectators see the real face of world-class tarmac rallying and we’re glad to be part of the action”.
Glenney’s Subaru will be pitched against the exotic super-cars from Porsche and Lamborghini, which have reigned supreme in the modern category at recent events. As co-driver Bernie Webb explains, the local support afforded to them will help the team move toward achieving their goals.
“The roads and scenery around Adelaide are truly exceptional,” Webb said. “I’ve been here for a couple of weeks preparing for the event and can’t wait to compete against the best teams in Australia.
“The course is very technical and will suit our approach and our nimble Subaru. It’s a good feeling knowing that the local community have pulled together in support of our bid to take on the country’s best tarmac rally teams”.
