The Fiat 131 Abarth that Greg Carr drove in the 1980s has been restarted for the first time in 29 years.
The Fiat was used by Markku Alen to win the 1981 Rally of Portugal, and although super fast in Australia as well, it was often unreliable. Privately run by Carr, his team was sometimes referred to as “Team Time Bomb”, such was the unpredictability of the car.
The video below shows the car being restarted after 29 years, while we have also included a video of Greg Carr driving the Fiat during the 1985 2GO Rally.
We can only hope that the car appears in some classic rallies in the future - maybe even with Carr at the wheel.
These days, Carr is a top class mountain bike rider in his age group. His last competitive rally outing was in a Fiat Abarth replica at the Otago Rally in New Zealand.
