Australian Rally Commission Chairman, Colin Trinder, has announced that a working group had been formed to explore the concept of an endurance event as part of the 2010 Australian Rally Championship. The working Group is to be chaired by Victorian Darryn Snooks.

"ARCom has been considering the need to include different, more challenging formats of events in the Australian Championship for some time," Trinder said.

"The formation of this working group is the first step toward realising the vision that we include an endurance event as a part of the Australian Rally Championship. The working group has been tasked with developing the concept and reporting back to ARCom by early June 2009.

"While there is no hard and fast view about the structure, organisation or route that the event might take, ARCom is mindful of the work that the marketing group did during 2008 that suggested a Sydney to Melbourne or Melbourne to Sydney route, taking in Canberra, as the base concept.

"The end of the contract for the Rally of Canberra ARC and the fact that there has been no Australian Championship round in Victoria in 2008/09 also provides an opportunity to work with those organisers and clubs to stage a major event in 2010," Trinder said.

"2010 is also the rest year for Repco Rally Australia." he said.

The working group will include representatives from organisers of events and car clubs in both NSW and Victoria.
