The former Peugeot Sport driver and team principal will be the Challenge’s motorsport development manager, lending the series his valuable experience gained through 40 years at the top of world rallying.
The Frenchman won his first World Championship rally as a driver on the 1973 Tour de Corse, eventually becoming sporting director and then team principal for Peugeot. He oversaw two drivers’ titles and three constructors’ championships for the French marque, before announcing the development of Peugeot’s new Super 2000 car at the end of last year.
Jean-Pierre retired from Peugeot in August, and is now looking forward to using his talents in a different direction.
“Rallying has always been my passion and now I am delighted to have the opportunity to put something back into the sport that I love so much,” he said.
“I firmly believe that the Intercontinental Rally Challenge represents a new generation for the sport, providing fantastic value for drivers, manufacturers and fans. I look forward to helping make the action even more spectacular in future on this extremely exciting new series.”
In addition, the press officer for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge will be Anthony Peacock, who has extensive experience of rallying in both journalism and communications. Anthony speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish and will be present on all the rounds of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge this season.
The Intercontinental Rally Challenge, which is organised and promoted by SRW events, gets underway with the Safari Rally in Kenya from March 9-11. Eurosport – Europe’s biggest television channel – will provide extensive and innovative coverage from every round, reaching over 110 million homes in 59 countries across the world.
