Irishmen Charlie Drake, owner and driver of Celtic Motorsport, and co-driver Eoin Moynihan, are an Irish rally team that will be competing in Rally Australia in September.
"We currently own a PRC Mitsubishi Evo 8 but because of limited funding and changes that we would need to make to make our car compliant to run group N in the WRC event, we have decided to lease a car from Mick Ryan of Rallyschool, so we will be flying the Irish flag in our Rallyschool Subaru Impreza STI in September," said Drake.
"We have done a few ARC events this season with a few high points and a few low points. The best moment was finishing seventh in Heat 2 in Rally Canberra and probably our most dissapointing moment was breaking the rear diff on stage 3 in Rally Queensland which put us out the rally. We had a great test at that event and confidence was high, so it was really frustrating to be putting the car on the trailer so soon into the event."
"It has been a steep learning curve for us with trying to learn to drive a 4WD turbo car and also Eoin and I trying to develop a pace note system that we are both happy with. We have made good progress throughtout the year and we will definitely be competing in next year's ARC."
"After Queensland, we turned our efforts to try and find a way of competing in the WRC round in Australia. Obviously now that we have secured a car and the entry, it will be a dream come true for us to compete in such a world class event. Our aim for the event is to soak up the atmosphere of the rally week and definitely finish the event with the car and crew in one piece."
"To add to the atmosphere of the event, we have a good few friends and family travelling from Ireland to Australia to cheer us on and support us. We have also organised a Celtic Motorsport WRC tour which we already have over 50 signed up for, so that will be a good trip for everyone."
"This weekend we will be travelling to Melbourne to participate in a Rallyschool rally training day where Mick will be providing the STI for us to get some seat time and also some much appreciated driver training. I have to say that Mick has been brilliant to us and his help and support are greatly appreciated by both myself and Eoin."
