Five days after entries closed for Rally Australia, Skoda Motorsport has finally confirmed that their driver, Jan Kopecky, has become unbeatable in the FIA WRC2 world title.
The team are believed to have made this decision secretly after Rally Turkey, the only occasion during the season when Kopecky and his teammate, Pontus Tidemand, faced each other in open competition.
Although each driver was entitled to enter seven WRC2 events and score points from six events, both drivers will have only entered six events when Kopecky starts in his week’s Catalunya Rally.
So far this year Kopecky has won five events, Tidemand three, with two seconds and one retirement.
Tidemand won the WRC2 series in 2017, while Kopecky has won both the European Rally Championship and the Asia Pacific Championship, as well as the national Czech title six times.
