After making a spectacular debut to the New Zealand Rally Championship, Matt Jansen and the Christchurch Casino Rally Team are hoping to continue their fine form into round two, the Otago Rally this weekend.

Two competitive days saw Jansen, and co-driver Jason Farmer, sitting fourth in the chase for the Gold Star title. As well as this, the pair took maximum points in the rookie and junior championships.

Since Hawkes Bay, the team have stripped the Christchurch Casino Subaru down, given it a good checking over and sorted some handling problems.

“In the damp sections at Napier, the car wasn’t handling as well as I would have liked. We have been working in conjunction with the guys at Proflex and, after a couple of runs at testing, we feel we have got the problem sorted,”  Jansen said.

Jansen is itching to get onto the Otago roads that, unlike Hawkes Bay, he has competed on before, giving him an idea of what to expect.

Both Jansen and Farmer are looking forward to the challenge of once again writing their own pace notes, a big undertaking for their first season in the national championship.

“The notes are definitely a work in progress. The ones we wrote for Hawkes Bay did the job but there is still a lot of room for improvement,” Farmer added.
