Australian based Irishman, JJ Hatton, will compete in selected Australian events in 2020, with the goal of starting Rally New Zealand in September.

The 2019 season was one of learning for Hatton, who ran his new Hyundai i20 G4 car in a number of national and state events.

A step up from his Mitsubishi which he had previously campaigned, the Hyundai provided him with a more competitive car on the national scene.

For this year, he will choose not to chase a championship, but rather pick and choose his events.

“I will be competing in selected ARC events this year - Canberra, Eureka and hopefully the new Noosa event if it becomes a round,” he told RallySport Magazine.

“I’d hope to compete in is Batemans Bay and maybe some Victorian rounds as my car lives in Victoria.

“I would have run all of the 2020 NSW Rally Championship but my car is not eligible to score points, so that would just be pointless,” he added.

A trip to New Zealand is one he wants to do, but he fully understands the challenges which must be overcome to get there.

“The big one is to compete in Rally New Zealand, but that’s completely up in the air.

“I’ll need another crew from Activ Rallysport to compete so we can make it financially viable. A lot of things need to come together for that to happen,” he concluded.
