In his first full Australian championship campaign, JJ Hatton says the focus is on learning the car and the new events with co-driver, Nathan Long.

He is also quick to commend the Activ Rallysport team on their professionalism and the ARC on their progress.

It’s been a work in progress to entice more competitors, like himself, to make the jump to the ARC, but Hatton believes there are many boxes already being ticked.

“The different variety of cars competing is great, and the support of G4, AP4, R5 and PRC meant I was more than happy to take up the challenge,” Hatton told RallySport Magazine.

“The new rule changes to PRC cars to be more competitive, and the general relaxation of the rules and regulations for all car categories is something that drew me to the series.”

He also is a big fan of the one day events, which are scheduled for Canberra’s National Capital Rally and Ballarat’s Eureka Rush.

“The one day ARC event is a great idea for selective rounds,” he commented.

“A one day event for somewhere like Tasmania or Western Australia wouldn’t work as there’s too much travelling to compete, but for Canberra it’s perfect.

“Overall, I think the ARC and CAMS are heading in the right direction.

“There still needs to be more promotion on social media and marketing, but they’re definitely on the right track.”

At round one at the Forest Rally, Hatton debuted his Hyundai i20 G4 car to great hype with the returning Actv Rallysport team.

The team helped guide Justin Dowel and Matt Lee to their 2011 national title, and arrived in WA with a seriously professional four car operation.

“Without Justin (Dowel) and Will Orders and the entire Activ Rallysport team, who know these cars inside and out, I would not be competing in the ARC.

“Much like the pace of the ARC - it’s definitely gone up a few levels.

“Their professionalism is just next level, and they make rallying so much easier and enjoyable. I just arrive and drive!” he said.

JJ Hatton continues his Australian Rally Championship campaign for Activ Rallysport and his J-Sport Rally Team at round two of the series in Canberra next week.
