The Finn won the two-day event on home soil for the third time in his career. A technical problem at the Rally Estonia Historic three weeks ago prevented him from tasting victory for the first time in the quattro.
“By letting me drive the Audi quattro, Volkswagen have allowed me to fulfil a lifelong dream. It was simply fantastic,” said Latvala.
“I'm now going into the Rally Germany with a victory under my belt.”
The ninth race of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) will be taking place in and around Trier from the 21 to 25 August. Volkswagen’s home rally will be getting underway with Cologne Cathedral in the backdrop.
World Championship leaders Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F), who drive the 315-horsepower Polo R WRC, could theoretically wrap up the title in Germany.
