Driving the Audi Quattro, a classic in the world of rallying, Volkswagen’s Finnish driver Jari-Matti Latvala (FIN) put in a first class performance at the Rally Estonia.

Winning six of the eight stages, only a technical problem on the penultimate stage could spoil his chances of a successful title defence.

“I’ve always wanted to drive this car. Thanks to Volkswagen, I have been able to fulfil a lifelong dream,” said Latvala.

“I am now really excited by the prospect of racing in Finland.”

The eighth race of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season will be taking place in Latvala’s homeland from 1 to 3 August. Before the big event, the three Volkswagen pairings will be undertaking tests 200 kilometres north of Helsinki.

Lavala, World Championship leader Sébastien Ogier (FRA) and the Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen are using this as a chance to work on the set-up of their 315 horsepower Polo R WRCs before the fastest rally on the racing calendar
