Australian World Rally Championship star, Chris Atkinson, is currently back home on the Gold Coast after losing his drive with the Subaru World Rally Team at the end of 2008.
Twenty-nine year old Atkinson competed in the first round of the WRC in Ireland, driving a Citroen C4 for the Citroen Junior Team, finishing fifth outright.
The Gold Coast driver is hoping to compete in another seven or eight WRC rounds in the 2009 WRC, but first needs to find upwards of $1 million in sponsorship to fund his campaign.
RallySport Mag’s Peter Whitten caught up with Atkinson on the Gold Coast last week, where he spoke candidly about his time with SWRT, his debut in the Citroen C4, his hopes of returning to the WRC and winning his first rally, and even about a possible return to the Australian Rally Championship.
