Steve Mackenzie and the Opti-Coat Rally Team have put together a special deal for Rally Australia, with the team brining yet another different manufacturer into this year’s East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship.
With six different manufacturers competing in the championship this year, Mackenzie and the team will bring a seventh different manufacturer in Peugeot, with the team confirming a last minute deal to bring a Peugeot 207 down under. With backing from season sponsor OPT and help from Kumho Tyres motorsport manager, John Mills, the deal couldn’t have been better timing.
“The Peugeot 207 is definitely a step up for the team, and it’s a great opportunity for myself and the crew to prove to everyone that we can challenge the front runners,” Mackenzie said.
This is another step in the right direction for 20 year old Mackenzie and his team. Punching above their weight quite often this season in the Fiesta, the team will be out to get a good finish for the rally.
“With the event being a part of the World Rally Championship it’s easy to over promise and get wound up in the hype. We have not driven the car yet and it will be my first time in a left hand drive so there are a lot of unknowns," Mackenzie added.
"We must take a cautious approach and not expect to be winning stages on Friday morning. So realistically we will be chasing a top five result come the end of the rally, which I believe is a reasonable target.”
Rally Australia will be based out of Coffs Harbour from September 12 to 15.
