Tasmanian Rally Championship leader, Eddie Maguire, is one of the favourites for this weekend's round at the Les Walkden Enterprises Mountain Stages Rally. Maguire will drive his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX as car one on the road, with Zak Brakey alongside. Although the rally has only attracted a field of 18 cars, it's an impressive line-up at the head of the pack, with four-wheel drive, turbocharged cars filling the first seven positions. Maguire's biggest challengers will be Craig Brooks and Steve Glenney in the ex-factory Subaru WRX – the newest car in the rally by some 12 years (Maguire's being the next newest). Also Subaru WRX mounted are Brodie Read, Nic Graves and Pete Nunn, while flying the Mitsubishi flag are Stephen Maguire and second-generation driver Byron Murfet. There are four Subaru RS Challenge cars in the field, headed by Marcus Walkem, while two-wheel drive honours will be battled out between Aiden Peterson (Nissan Sunny GTI), Nathan Newton (Datsun Skyline) and Benjamin Scheldrick in a Holden Commodore.

Rallying legend, and long time supporter of the sport in both Tasmania and at a national level, Les Walkden, will also compete. Walkden will be behind the wheel of his rally-prepared Mitsubishi Pajero, more for the fun of it than for outright results. He'll have Ian Wheeler calling the corners.
