Brad Markovic and Glenn Macneall have won the final round of the 2015 WA Rally Championship, the notoriously-challenging Carringtons Safari Rally around Chidlow and Mundaring after the Auto One pair outclassed their competition in trying conditions.
“It was unbelievably hot,” Markovic said. “It was 36 degrees outside, so you can imagine how warm we were inside the car.”
Despite the extra physical demands of the event, Markovic and Macneall set the pace for other teams, claiming the fastest time on six out of eight stages in their Maximum Motorsport-prepared Subaru WRX. The win at the Carringtons Safari Rally was the second in a row for the boys and a delighted Markovic said: “It was a great way to finish the year. That’s the first time we’ve had back to back wins, so it’s pretty special.”
The 2015 WARC season has been extremely encouraging for the team and Markovic thanked his supporters: Auto One, Maximum Motorsport, Dunlop Tyres, Castrol, Shining Monkey, Lighforce and Pfitzner Performance Gearbox.
“This year was about development for us. We spent our time developing the car, Glenn and I developed our partnership and everyone involved developed as a team,” he said. “Our plan was to get faster with each event and we did that.”
Markovic plans to spend the off season installing a new sequential gearbox in the car.
“We wanted to get it in earlier in the year, but ran out of time.”
Markovic and Macneall will be back out on the gravel in 2016 but are yet to decide whether they will return to the WA Rally Championship or contest the Australian Rally Championship.
