“This year, we’re going for the state championship.”

Talented Perth rally driver Brad Markovic has declared he’s a genuine contender for 2015 Onslow Contracting WA Rally Championship honours ahead of the opening round this weekend.

The Quit Forest Rally (QFR), which is also round one of the ECB Australian Rally Championship (ARC), attracts the country’s best drivers and kicks off on Friday.

The event includes special stages on the Busselton foreshore as well as challenging and twisty stages in the pine plantations of Nannup.

For 37-year-old Markovic, who burst back onto the WA rallying scene last year after a nine-year hiatus, QFR will be a chance to build on the hard work he and co-driver Glenn Macneall, (a former World Rally Championship competitor and two-time FIA Asia Pacific Champion), put in last year.

“2014 was all about preparation and development,” Markovic said.

“It was about getting partnership experience and a chance for us to get some good pacenotes sorted.”

This year will be about determination, fast stage times and most important, good outright results.

Markovic, who’ll be driving the Maximum Motorsport-prepared Auto One Subaru WRX, described his approach to QFR as ‘measured’.

He and Macneall have entered the ARC section of the competition for the chance to get a good position on the road and maximum exposure for his hard-working team.

“Ultimately, we’d like to be able to compare ourselves against the ARC competitors,” Markovic said.

“But we’ll be keeping an eye on local guys Doug Tostevin, Dylan King, Rob Webber and John O’Dowd, too.”

“We want to keep some good pressure on the other competitors and come away with a good result.”

Markovic’s team is supported by Auto One, Maximum Motorsport, Castrol, Shining Monkey and Lightforce.

“We’re backed by an incredible team,” he said.
