The successful MINI ALL4 Racing pairing of Nasser Al-Attiyah and Matthieu Baumel dominated the Italian Baja leg of the 2015 FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies (25-28 June) to take the overall win after securing victory in four of the five stages.

The MINI ALL4 Racing mastered the challenging jumps and tight track perfectly to continually extend the lead set out in the first stage. Despite Qatari Al-Attiyah’s greater familiarity with desert landscapes, he used his considerable driving skill, and the navigational support of Baumel, to overcome the challenges of the Cosa torrent and the Meduna and Tagliamento riverbeds in the Pordenone region.

“This is the first time in decades that the Italian Baja has been contested at this time of the year so we had to adapt to new challenges,” said Al Attiyah. “It was a tough race with very little margin for error but Matthieu and I are now working really well together with the MINI ALL4 Racing so we kept our focus and composure to continue adding to our points tally. Being the only MINI in contention at this race definitely made the win more special.”

The victory cements Al-Attiyah’s overall second place in the 2015 FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies behind Russian Vladimir Vasilyev.
