Molly Taylor heads to the UK this weekend ahead of her entry in this year’s Suzuki Swift Sport Cup.Â
After Suzuki’s withdrawal from the World Rally Championship just prior to Christmas, organisers of the MSA British Rally Championship have worked successfully with Suzuki GB to gain their support for the popular series to continue.
The Series has so far attracted seven entrants, with Taylor the only female driver, and with plenty of interest, Series organisers are still confident of attracting more entrants.
Taylor’s campaign will get underway at the end of this month with round 1 of the series, the Bulldog International Rally Wales, to be held on March 28. She has leased a Swift for the series and will be joined by experienced UK co-driver, Jemma Bellingham.
The Swift Sport Cup includes six events, with the 2009 champion winning a prize drive on the final round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the Rally of Scotland, at the end of November.
Â
In addition there will be on event prize money offering cash awards for the top seven cars on each event with the top placed driver taking £500, £300 for second, £200 for third and £100 for the remainder of finishers down to seventh place.
Â
The support package will include on-event support from Monster Sport Europe, which will attend each of the events with a parts truck and technical assistance for Swift Sport competitors.
Â
The popular series will also enjoy TV coverage on Sky Sports’ BRC Rallyzone programme and have its own dedicated website. The highest placed Junior driver will receive an automatic nomination to the Pirelli Star Driver shootout, with all registered drivers eligible for nomination at any time during the six events.
Â
Taylor is really looking forward to taking part in the series and in gaining more international driving experience. Her first international event, Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, in September last year, confirmed her driving talent, and series organisers were very keen to see the young Aussie return in 2009.
