Rumours have been doing the rally circle in recent weeks, and Rallycorp and NEC have today confirmed that their partnership has come to an end.
NEC has been involved at both a naming rights and platform sponsorship level since 2005.
Rallycorp now have the difficult task of finding a replacement sponsor for 2008 and beyond.
“First of all we want to thank NEC for not only for their outstanding financial contribution, but also their enthusiasm for the Australian Rally Championship,” Rallycorp Chairman, Steve Ashton said in an ARC release.
“Now we can embark on finding a replacement. The Australian Rally Championship offers an outstanding opportunity for companies wanting to promote their brands throughout Australia, and indeed overseas.
“This championship has attracted official entries from Toyota and Ford, and with the competition now featuring the major Australian car segment, the importance of the ARC has never been higher. Plus, it’s without doubt one of the leading domestic rally championships anywhere in the world.
“With the exception of Tasmania and the Northern Territory, this championship visits every state and territory.
“We have an outstanding product on the ground, as well as in the media – especially our excellent television production and broadcast.
“I’m positive that we can replace NEC with another well known naming rights sponsor for the Australian Rally Championship,” Ashton added.
“On behalf of NEC I would like to thank both Rallycorp and IMG for their efforts over the last three years,” said Regional Director-Australasia for NEC Computers, Tim Falinski.
“We have seen the championship grow and go from strength to strength. We are sure that with the plans put in place that the ARC will continue to grow in the future.
“NEC wishes Rallycorp and IMG every success in the future of the championship.”
