Innovative new features, a fresh management team and a November date bring a whole new look to the NEC Australian Rally Championship Grand Final, the NGK Rally of Melbourne.
2007's NGK Rally of Melbourne will be contested from 9 – 11th November on the fast forest roads of the picturesque Yarra Valley vineyard region, in what promises to be the season's premier event.
Support from NGK Spark Plugs for the fifth year running, has also enabled promoter Neil Cuthbert to introduce several yet-to-be-announced innovations for the final championship round of 2007.
"The NGK Rally of Melbourne is going to be a very different event this year … we have put in a lot of work to ensure there's a mix of reconfigured stages and some totally new features, which will be very popular with both competitors and spectators," Neil Cuthbert says.
"Moving the event away from the football season will also assist us to reach an even bigger audience, an important benefit of the new date.”
"Since my first involvement in the event in 2002, with Justin Hunt, we have strived to make the NGK Rally of Melbourne the Championship benchmark and I have no doubt that will continue," says Cuthbert.
Long-time senior event officials Alan Mackay and Rod McEwan step up jointly in 2007 into the key Clerk of the Course and Event Operations Manager roles, bringing a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to rallying's most attended event.
Former Clerk of the Course, West Australia's Ross Tapper, will remain involved supporting now sole promoter Neil Cuthbert. Former co-promoter Justin Hunt remains an advisor to the event.
The 2007 NGK Rally of Melbourne will also be an integral part of the Victorian Rally Championship with two rounds to be conducted over the weekend.
"The NGK Rally of Melbourne has long been a benchmark in many ways within the Championship, and a favorite of competitors, officials and spectators alike," Rallycorp Chairman Stephen Ashton says.
"These moves will help the event continue its development and we congratulate Neil Cuthbert and his team on their renewed commitment to the NEC Australian Rally Championship."
