With many race and rally teams getting on the tree planting band wagon to offset their carbon emissions, the team at Baker Motorsport have brought a new environmentally friendly sponsor into the sport of rallying.

Solartec will be the main sponsor of the team for their attack on the Australian Rally Championship this year.

Solartec, as the name suggests, is one of the leading Solar technology suppliers for the Capital region. More information about Solartec can be found on their website at www.solartec.com.au

The Baker Motorsport team, with driver Ray Baker and co-driver Andrew Buerckner, will be competing in at least three rounds of this year’s NEC Australian Rally Championship.  Their trusty Daihatsu Charade will be the weapon of choice for all rounds.

Many people will know Ray from his exploits in recent years as a co-driver with Gerald Schofield and Peter Jerie.  Andrew Buerckner has been the chief engineer for the team and has also crewed for Gerald Schofield during last year’s ARC.  He was ACT Novice Navigator champion in 2004.

The Charade will also run with support from NSW Bearing Supplies, Bold Hair, Jesters Pies at Brand Depot and 4Kam Australia.

The first event for the team will be their home event, the Rally of Canberra. Last time the team competed in this event they brought the car home second in class and 10th in the National event.

Watch out for the Jesters Pies at their service area for Rally of Canberra. They will have a Solar demonstration as well.

The unveiling of the new livery for the car will be on the Sunday before the Rally of Canberra.
