Fresh from his success in last weekend’s final round of the New Zealand Rally Championship, Brendan Reeves is already looking ahead to next month’s Lightforce Rally SA.

“I’ve borrowed a gear set off my brother, Nathan, for this event, so the Subaru will have a six-speed gearbox for South Australia,” Reeves told RallySport Magazine today.

“Other than that, the car will be pretty much the same as it was in Canberra, although we’ll need to do some work on diff settings before the event.”

For this event, Reeves will be back on the mandatory Kumho tyres, after running his borrowed Mazda 2 on Pirellis in New Zealand.

And while his mind is focussed on South Australia, he’s already looking ahead to Rally Australia in November.

In particular, tyre wear on the 50.80km Nambucca stage – which is run twice on day two – has his attention.

“The weather is likely to be five or 10 degrees hotter in November than it was last time I did the event (in September),” Reeves said.

“Back then our Mazda 2 wore the Kumho tyres down to the canvas on the Nambucca stage, so I’m really concerned about tyre wear in the four-wheel drive car.

“It’s going to take a smart approach to driving to ensure that the tyres last the distance if the weather is hot and dry.”

Reeves is currently keeping his options open in regards to what car he will drive at Rally Australia.

Lightforce Rally SA will be held on September 8 to 10, while Kennard’s Hire Rally Australia takes place from November 17 to 19 as a round of the World Rally Championship.
