By his own admission, the chances for 2013 - 2015 World Rally Champion, Sebastien Ogier, to win his fourth world championship title in Corsica exist, but are slender.

He will go to the Tour de Corse (Sept 30-Oct 2) 59 points ahead of fellow Volkswagen driver Andreas Mikkelsen, but any title triumph will only follow on from a series of disasters for his rivals.

Examining all the possibilities, no fewer than seven drivers can still be world champion this year - the three Volkswagen drivers, the three regular Hyundai drivers, and the M-Sport driver Mads Ostberg.  Ostberg’s fellow M-Sport drivers, Eric Camilli and Ott Tanak, are already both out of the running, as are the Abu Dhabi Citroen drivers.

There is no chance for an early title for Volkswagen in the Manufacturers’ championship, however, as both Hyundai and M-Sport can statistically become champions instead.

Corsica will play no part in the race for the WRC2 title in which seven Fabia drivers are pursuing the lone Fiesta driver, Elfyn Evans, who leads the series, but for whom Corsica is his final points scoring opportunity this year.

Corsica will be the penultimate round of the Junior WRC that Simone Tempestini is leading comfortably, and could be crowned Champion on this event.  Second currently is Ole Christian Veiby, while statistically two other drivers (Terry Folb and Vincent Dubert) could become Junior champion at the final round, Wales Rally GB, if all goes their way.

Tempestini also leads the WRC3 series, for which Junior drivers are eligible, from Michel Fabre, whose tactic of gaining points on events that do not offer points for the Junior series (and are less likely to enter) was thwarted when the China Rally was cancelled.
