Jim Richards and Grant Denyer head the line-up for this weekend’s Rallye Burnie, to be held in Tasmania.

Held for the first time under the direction of Les Walkden and MSR Corporate, the all-tarmac rally will be observed as a possible inclusion in the Australian Rally Championship in the future – perhaps as soon as next year.

Richards and long-time co-driver, Barry Oliver, head the entry list in their 2006 Porsche Turbo, followed by the Lancer Evo 8.5 RS of fellow circuit racer, Tony Quinn.

TV star Grant Denyer and former Australian Rally Champion Dale Moscatt are next up in a Subaru Impreza WRX, followed by Tasmanian speedsters Jamie and Simon Vandenberg in a Lancer Evo 9, and the brother and sister team of Brendan Reeves and Rhianon Smyth in a Walkden-built Subaru Impreza WRX.

For Reeves it will be his third event in three weekends. Last weekend he contested the Great Lakes ARC round on the NSW north coast, while the weekend before that he finished third in the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint in north east Victoria.

Only 30 entries have been received for Rallye Burnie, but it will again use some famous Tasmanian stages, including tests in the Hellyer Gorge and Savage River regions.

The event begins with a ceremonial start tonight, before stages on Saturday and Sunday.
