Hot on the heels of MRF Tyres being named as the South Australian Rally Championship naming rights sponsor, the first round run by the Southern Districts Car Club in the Second Valley Forest have also announced a big new sponsor. The RAA Southern Rally will be run on May 1 with around 130 kilometres of competition with 95 kilometres transport for an ultra-compact event.

The RAA, through its Road Safety initiative, was very keen to assist the motorsport community in providing relatively safe and cost effective outlets to race and direct people with a passion to go fast ‘off the streets’.
Whilst the event is around 85% forest stages, the jewel of the crown is the Balquhidder Stage, 16 kilometres of cresty and challenging closed Council road, of which there are only two residents. Full approval of the landholders and the Yankalilla District Council has meant the stage has made a return after more than two decades sitting dormant.
The Balquhidder stage has been run in a number of configurations, but has been a favourite of Australian Champions like Barry Lowe and Jeremy Browne and has decided a number of events and championships in the 1970s and 1980s.
Supplementary Regulations will be released soon, but more information about the event can be found at www.sdcc.asn.au
