Melbourne’s newest motorsport equipment supplier, Racer Industries, has stepped in to support one of the oldest continuously run motorsport events in Australia, the Akademos Rally.
To be held on Sunday, November 16, it will be the last round of this year’s closely contested Victorian Rally Championship.
The Championship is on a “knife edge” with up to four teams able to take out the championship, depending on how they finish in the Akademos. Mark Fawcett and Simon Ellis currently lead the championship, however they are one of four crews who could take out the championship by the end of the event.
The Akademos Rally is one of the oldest events on the Australian rally calendar, having been held 40 times since 1960. The event has been a round of the Australian or Victorian rally championship for most of those years.
Racer Industries has just opened its motorsport parts and equipment business in the inner Melbourne suburb of Kensington. Joyon Foster, the Sales Manager, said: “We are very proud to be associated with an event of such long standing in Australian motorsport. It’s also very exciting to be involved in the event that is going to decide such a highly competitive championship season. We are really looking forward to what will be an outstanding motorsport contest on the day.”
This support of the Victorian Rally Championship is part of the launch activities of Racer Industries in Melbourne. They are also providing support to several other categories and events, including the Victorian Sprint Car series, as we well as the Mount Buller Sprint tarmac rally.
Peter Otzen, the Clerk of Course for the Akademos said: “We are delighted to be able to have the support of Racer Industries as our naming rights sponsor. It’s great to see companies like this putting something back into the sport. We are looking forward to a very exciting day as the championship is decided over some of the best roads in the state.
