As the countdown towards the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro at Mount Panorama continues, event organisers are reiterating the invitation for tarmac rally cars to compete in the April 8 race.

Any Modern Tarmac Rally Spec Cars that fit into the class structure and comply with vehicle eligibility requirements are eligible to compete in the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro.

“One of the key issues when crafting the new production car rules was to ensure that manufacturers and entrants could get as much leverage as possible in their motorsport investment. The opportunity to compete in events such as Targa Tasmania, and also the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour in the same car offer Tarmac Rally entrants a great race programme for the year,” explained Bill West from SPHERIX, the 12 Hour Administrator.

Since entries opened several weeks ago West and his team at SPHERIX have received numerous entries for the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro, including two from Holden Motorsport, and have fielded over 100 genuine enquires. These enquires have come from a variety of entities including manufacturers, current motorsport outfits and individuals.

“The entry list looks strong, with a great variety of manufacturers, and any car in the first 4 classes probably has a chance of winning on the day,” West said.

“This will be the most open endurance race at Bathurst in years and we would welcome any tarmac rally cars that comply with the rules and race regs.”

Event Director James O’Brien has so far been impressed by the level of support shown by the motoring and motorsport community for the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro and the 2007 WPS Bathurst International Festival.

“We’ve learnt a lot from the inaugural WPS Festival earlier this year and the momentum is continuing to build towards a bigger and better Festival in 2007,” said O’Brien.

“The WPS 12 Hour Race is a great opportunity for competitors on all levels to have a chance to compete around the famous Mount Panorama circuit. With the regulations incorporating a wide variety of eligible marques and models it should also create an interesting race.

“In conjunction with the 12 Hour Race and the support categories there will again be demonstrations by many of the cars from yesteryear throughout the Festival.”

The 2007 WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival will be held at Mount Panorama on April 6-8, incorporating the WPS 12-hour Production Car race on Sunday April 8.
